About Mussiro
We named the company after a plant.
Mussiro (Olax dissitiflora) is a small tree that grows wild across northern Mozambique. Its roots, ground into a pale paste with water, become the white-yellow mask that women of the Macua people have worn for generations — for protection, for beauty, for ceremony, for going about the day. It is one of the most quietly recognisable images of Mozambique.
We chose the name because it captures something we believe about travel here: the country is not a list of beaches. It is a layered, careful culture, made of ritual and routine. And it shows itself slowly, to those who are willing to look.
Our story
Built in Maputo, for travellers who want depth.
Mussiro Trips started as a small operation in Maputo — built by people who live in the city, work with guides we trust, and travel Mozambique, Eswatini and the Kruger lowveld often enough to know what works in February that doesn't work in September.
We are deliberately small. Five to eight guests per departure. Hand-built itineraries. No coaches, no buffets, no rushed lists. We work with hosts, guides, drivers and cooks we've travelled with for years — many became friends before they became partners.
What we sell isn't a package. It's a country, told by people who live in it.
